About The Position

The Patient Services Representative (PSR) at MIT Health is responsible for managing patient flow and appointment scheduling. This role involves front desk duties such as patient check-in, collecting copayments, and verifying accurate insurance eligibility. The PSR also handles administrative tasks including phone calls, data entry, insurance reviews, filing, and scheduling appointments and procedures to ensure coordination across different providers, service areas, and healthcare facilities. The position requires significant patient interaction, both in person and over the phone, and involves effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, including referral providers and practices, to manage complex patient issues. The core function is to provide positive and effective customer service that supports departmental operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience (e.g., customer service or administrative).
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate with patients, clinicians, and other professional staff in a pleasant, calming, and diplomatic manner.
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to follow through and complete tasks.
  • Math proficiency: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently or within a team environment.
  • Ability to work with diverse internal and external constituencies.
