About The Position

Greet and assist patients and visitors; check in patients for scheduled appointments. Provide exceptional service to our patients and visitors; compile, verify and input data into computer. Register patients; collects co-pays and patient balances daily.

Requirements

  • One year related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information to patients and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • In-depth knowledge of SCOI Database software and Internet software.
  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk and hear.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to work as scheduled each day.
  • Acts in a manner that is indicative of team spirit and cooperation.
  • Works cooperatively as a team member and supports the Mission, Vision and Values of Southern California Orthopedic Institute.
  • Complies with SCOI Policy and Procedures.
  • Maintains departmental standards, department resources, along with the operating procedures.
  • Greets and assists patients and visitors; maintains patient sign in sheet and appointment list; continually monitors and ensures that all patients are checked in and accounted for.
  • Provides necessary paperwork to patient upon check-in. Reviews completed forms for accuracy and signature.
  • Compiles patient demographics, insurance information (scans copy of insurance card), and scans copy of driver’s license.
  • Accurately verifies and registers patient demographic and insurance information into patients account; verifies and inputs any accompanying referrals and authorizations received from patient into appropriate case.
  • Collects patient balances and co-pays as needed at time of service; enters payments for the corresponding ticket into the Billing module and onto Payment Log.
  • Balances all payments received with your Deposit Slip for your batch at the end of the day.
  • Deposits all Over-the-Counter collections daily according to Deposit Policy & Procedure.
  • Processes all no shows, cancellations and reschedules; forwards work comp no show fee tickets to Patient Billing Coordinator for posting; routes charts to medical records for re-filing.
  • Schedules return appointments as needed.
  • Assists with coverage of Patient Billing and Benefits Coordinator as needed.
  • Completes meaningful-use related functions as assigned.
  • Scans patient documents into SRS.
  • Assists with benefits verification as assigned.
  • Provides coverage in any SCOI satellite as needed.
