About The Position

The Patient Services Associate (PSA) is a specifically trained member of the unit-based care team who provides both clerical and patient care support to the Patient Management Team. The Patient Services Associate works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse or other licensed/certified health care disciplines on the unit and performs tasks and duties for which they possess the competency that do not require a licensed practitioner, professional judgment, or intervention. In the nursing support role, duties include assisting with bulk storage processing, peripheral stick collection, daily pod audits, blood culture processing, glucometer checks, serving as a preceptor for new Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), and assisting the charge nurse with other assigned duties. It is important that the PSA participates in the Unit-Based Counsel and serves as a strong role model/leader for the PCTs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 1 year of Patient Care in a health care setting.
  • BLS Required
  • Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning, and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment, to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR), or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).

Nice To Haves

  • 1 or more years of clerical or data entry experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients with direct patient care.
  • Accepts direction from RN and team members and follows through on delegated patient care activities.
  • Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with mobility-related activities.
  • Accurately and promptly documents all patient care tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, and I & O's per unit and department standards.
  • Obtains patient report and communicates with RN regarding patient care.
  • Informs the nurse of patient requests or complaints.
  • Carries out the Plan of Care for the patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach delegated by the Team Leader.
  • Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.
  • Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems.
  • Serves as a resource to support department members in the performance of duties.
  • Notifies appropriate staff of problems requiring prompt intervention.
  • Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
