The Patient Services Associate (PSA) is a specifically trained member of the unit-based care team who provides both clerical and patient care support to the Patient Management Team. The Patient Services Associate works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse or other licensed/certified health care disciplines on the unit and performs tasks and duties for which they possess the competency that do not require a licensed practitioner, professional judgment, or intervention. In the nursing support role, duties include assisting with bulk storage processing, peripheral stick collection, daily pod audits, blood culture processing, glucometer checks, serving as a preceptor for new Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), and assisting the charge nurse with other assigned duties. It is important that the PSA participates in the Unit-Based Counsel and serves as a strong role model/leader for the PCTs.
