About The Position

Provides service to patients before, during, or post-appointment with minimal guidance. Facilitates efficient workflow, supports appropriate use of technology, and engages in effective communication. Navigates complex patients to include scheduling with multiple services or coordination with outside facilities or providers. Vanderbilt Health Walk-In Clinics provide convenient, high-quality urgent care for patients with non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries that require prompt attention. Staffed by a highly trained team of board-certified physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, the clinics diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions such as allergic reactions, animal bites, back pain, bronchitis, minor burns, bug bites, abscesses, and seasonal allergies. Open seven days a week with evening and weekend hours, Vanderbilt Health Walk-In Clinics offer accessible care across multiple Middle Tennessee locations. In addition to urgent care services, clinics provide on-site diagnostic testing and treatment options, including X-rays, EKGs, lab testing, physical exams, vaccinations, drug screenings, blood glucose testing, and other preventive and occupational health services. Patients benefit from seamless access to follow-up care through Vanderbilt Health’s extensive network of primary care providers and specialists.

Requirements

  • CUSTOMER SERVICE (Intermediate): A continuing focus on the needs and requirements of customers, anticipating their needs, remaining sensitive to customers while performing services for them, responsive to customer needs.
  • PATIENT SCHEDULING (Novice): The ability to coordinate and schedule patient appointments, procedures and other office visits with various computer systems in the hospital or clinic.
  • PATIENT DOCUMENTATION (Novice): The ability to receive and record patient information.
  • MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY & DOCUMENTATION (Novice): The ability to comprehend medical terminology and
  • APPOINTMENT & PRODECURAL SCHEDULING (Fundamental Awareness): The ability to coordinate and schedule diagnostic testing and procedures within various computer systems in the hospital.
  • 1 year relevant work experience
  • High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Proficiently performs all Associate Patient Service Specialist job responsibilities.
  • Schedules appointments and procedures through clinical communication, work queues, and patient portal messages
  • Manages registration and patient work queues.
  • Coordinates with patients and/or outside facilities to ensure all pre-appointment orders and consults have been received and ready to view prior to patient visit.
  • Communicates with patients through the patient portal using critical decision making to route appropriately as applicable.
