The role involves creating new registrations for walk-in patients, identifying insurance coverage, benefits, and patient out-of-pocket expenses, and collecting co-insurance and co-payments. It also includes using electronic systems to confirm coverage, resolving eligibility issues, screening uninsured patients for urgent status, following charity procedures, and referring patients for financial counseling. The position requires screening orders for compliance, communicating with physicians and leaders to resolve issues, and managing security authorization and precertification for inpatient and outpatient services. Additionally, it involves notifying relevant departments about uninsured patients or those with Third Party Liability/Workers Compensation, maintaining knowledge of computer software for eligibility verification, identifying at-risk balances related to Medicare and Medicaid, and communicating potential financial impacts to patients. The role also requires accurate collection and analysis of clinical data for prior authorization and precertification, staying current with insurance requirements, federal and state regulations, and ensuring completion of policies for Primary Care Physician identification for HMO plans. The position is responsible for pre-registration and registration accuracy, maintaining knowledge of State & Federal regulations governing Medicare, Medicaid, and Mental Health registrations, ensuring accurate entry of patient demographic and insurance information, pre-registering and registering patients, educating patients on forms, managing calls for pre-registrations, and processing required documents. The role also includes participating in departmental team building activities, in-services, and assisting leaders with special assignments. For registrars at offsite imaging centers, additional duties include performing CPOE for exams, light cleaning of changing areas, printing and distributing results CDs, and escorting patients to changing areas.
