The Patient Service Representative (PSR) in the Women's Center is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, which forms the foundation of the patient's medical record used by the entire healthcare team. This role is crucial for preventing duplicate medical records, ensuring patient safety through positive identification, and managing patient registration. The PSR verifies demographic, guarantor, and insurance information, collects co-pays, and maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA. They also possess knowledge of insurance basics, understand which plans Advocate Health contracts with, and can discuss financial obligations with patients, referring them to Financial Advocates when necessary. Additionally, the PSR ensures compliance with various government regulations and may be involved in scheduling appointments, providing patient education, and performing visit closure. They are expected to create a welcoming environment, handle routine requests, answer telephones, and proactively communicate customer service and process improvement opportunities. Other duties may include e-scanning documents, managing in-basket messages, monitoring work queues, and assisting with orientation and training.
