The Patient Service Representative (PSR) is responsible for creating and maintaining accurate electronic health records, ensuring patient safety through positive identification, and managing patient registration processes. This includes obtaining and verifying demographic, guarantor, and insurance information, as well as discussing and collecting co-pays and other patient financial responsibilities. The PSR must maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, understand various insurance plans, and be knowledgeable about government regulations and compliance requirements. Key duties also involve scheduling appointments, providing detailed patient information for tests and procedures, performing visit closure tasks, and educating patients on the use of the patient portal. The role requires creating a welcoming environment, providing excellent customer service, handling telephone inquiries, and collaborating with clinical staff. PSRs may also assist patients with transportation, directions, and interpreter services, manage electronic documents, and support department leadership with orientation and training.
