Responsible for aspects of front office management and operation as assigned. This role involves complete and accurate patient registration, pre-certification, charge capture, and coding diagnoses. It also includes posting payments, balancing reports, managing patient contacts, enforcing financial agreements, gathering charge information, completing the billing process, filing insurance claims, assisting patients with forms, and processing unpaid accounts. The position acts as a liaison between patients and medical staff, greeting patients, checking them in, verifying insurance, obtaining signatures, and assisting patients with ambulatory difficulties. Maintaining the appointment book, providing phone support, screening visitors, and gathering/coding outpatient charges are also key duties. The role involves cashiering functions, preparing deposits, receiving payments, and working with patients on prepayment sources or financial agreements. It also includes assisting with outpatient coding, resolving customer service and collection requests, identifying trends, updating patient accounts, and scheduling surgeries and appointments. The Patient Service Representative answers questions regarding appointments and testing, assembles patient charts, updates profiles, oversees the waiting area, and assists patients with various insurance and benefit-related questions. They process benefit correspondence, signature, and insurance forms, follow up with insurance companies for coverage approval, post actions, and maintain records of patient accounts. Confirming workers’ compensation claims, preparing disability claims, and following up on claim payments are also part of the responsibilities. The role involves maintaining files, researching information for billing, coding procedures and diagnoses, entering charge information, and processing billings. It also includes pulling and filing charts, transporting records, picking up lab reports and correspondence, checking for misfiled charts, maintaining orderly files, purging obsolete records, destroying outdated records, making new charts, repairing damaged charts, and assisting in locating and filing records. The Patient Service Representative works with medical assistants and other staff to route charts and follows medical records policies. They collect payments at the time of service, review accounts for timely payments, perform collection actions, evaluate financial status, establish payment plans, and recommend accounts for collection agencies. Identifying and resolving billing complaints and following up on accounts until zero balance are also key aspects. The role requires participation in educational activities, gathering and verifying superbills, entering charge and payment information, verifying accuracy, printing daily reports, balancing charge entry, backing up and closing computer files, registering new patients, updating financial information, and maintaining confidentiality.
