Responsible for aspects of front office management and operation as assigned. This role requires a high level of public contact and excellent interpersonal skills. The Patient Services Representative is responsible for complete and accurate patient registration, pre-certification, charge capture, and accurately coding diagnoses given by physicians. They are also responsible for posting all payments and balancing with computer reports at day end. This role acts as a liaison between patients and medical support staff, greeting patients and visitors courteously, checking them in, and verifying insurance information. The position involves managing appointment books, providing phone support, screening visitors, and processing outpatient charges. Additionally, the role handles cashiering functions, prepares deposits, receives payments, and maintains records. It also involves working with patients to secure prepayment sources or financial agreements, participating in account resolution, and assisting with outpatient coding and error resolution. The Patient Services Representative processes edits and customer service requests, identifies trends, and communicates problems to management. They update patient account databases and physician schedules, and schedule surgeries, ancillary services, and appointments. The role involves answering patient questions about appointments, testing, insurance claims, disability benefits, and home health care. They assemble patient charts, update profiles for completeness and accuracy, and oversee the waiting area. The position also includes processing benefit correspondence, signature, and insurance forms, and following up with insurance companies for pre-certification and claim approval. They maintain a permanent record of patient accounts, answer account inquiries, confirm workers’ compensation claims, and prepare disability claims. The role involves maintaining files, researching information for billing, coding procedures and diagnoses, and entering charge information. They process and distribute billings, pull charts for appointments, and deliver, transport, sort, and file charts. The Patient Services Representative picks up lab reports, dictations, X-rays, and correspondence, checks for misfiled charts, maintains orderly files, and purges obsolete records. They create new patient charts, repair damaged charts, and assist in locating and filing records. The role works with medical assistants and other staff to route charts and follows medical records policies. They collect payments at time of service, review accounts for timely payments, perform collection actions, and evaluate patient financial status to establish payment plans. They identify and resolve patient billing complaints and participate in follow-up on accounts. The role involves gathering and verifying superbills, entering charge and payment information, verifying accuracy, printing and balancing daily reports, and backing up and closing computer files. They register new patients, update financial information, and maintain strict confidentiality. As a representative of Prisma Health Clinical Department, the individual is expected to maintain a neat and professional appearance, demonstrate commitment to serve, and uphold office manual guidelines.
