This position is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, which serves as the foundation for patient medical records used by the entire healthcare team. It plays a crucial role in preventing duplicate medical records, ensuring patient safety, and facilitating accurate billing. The role involves checking in and registering patients, gathering and verifying demographic, guarantor, and insurance information, and discussing and collecting co-pays and other patient financial responsibilities. Maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA is paramount. The position requires knowledge of insurance basics, understanding contracted plans, and the ability to discuss financial obligations with patients, referring them to Financial Advocates when necessary. Compliance with government regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and others is essential, requiring the collection of necessary patient signatures. The role may also involve scheduling appointments, coordinating cancellations and reschedules, and providing detailed information about test preparations and arrival procedures. A key aspect of this role is creating a welcoming and professional environment through exceptional customer service, including greeting patients, answering phones, and offering assistance with transportation, directions, and interpreter services. The Patient Service Representative will also monitor and work assigned electronic health record work queues according to departmental processes.
