About The Position

The Patient Service Representative I is responsible for a variety of administrative and clerical tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the front office. This role involves direct patient interaction, appointment scheduling, patient information management, and financial transactions. The position supports Variety Care's mission of providing safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care, aligning with the goals of the "Triple Aim" in healthcare reform.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Legible handwriting.
  • Basic mathematic skills.
  • Ability to work with the public.
  • Ability to enter simple data and basic keyboarding knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate with patients and staff.
  • Trustworthy handling of confidential information.
  • Ability to work in an active and stressful environment.
  • Ability to work with difficult patients from time to time.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of clerical experience.
  • One or more years of customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Receives patients at the reception window.
  • Obtains required information/documentation from patients at check-in.
  • Obtains and updates financial and family information, including address, phone, insurance coverage, and DOB, for each patient on each visit.
  • Updates information and makes changes as necessary in the electronic medical records.
  • Schedules appointments in the electronic medical records.
  • Posts charges and payments at the time of check-out.
  • Verifies late or open balances and reminds patients of outstanding balances.
  • Assists patients with balance owed questions by contacting billing assistance.
  • Accepts payments and ensures daily collections are secured.
  • Balances daily transactions.
  • Maintains order in the waiting area throughout the day.
  • Follows HIPAA guidelines and Variety Care Privacy policy and procedure.
  • Ensures office equipment is in good working order and notifies appropriate staff of any problems.
  • Accepts direction from the Practice Administrator or Physician on staff.
  • Supports Variety Care’s accreditation as a Patient Centered Medical Home.
  • Provides leadership and works with staff to achieve the goals of the "Triple Aim" of healthcare reform.
  • Embodies personal character, including being an open and honest communicator with high moral and ethical conduct, integrity, adaptability, and sound judgment.
  • Acts as a leader in the department and community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
