The Patient Service Representative will arrange for patient pre-payments and enforce financial agreements prior to providing service. They will gather charge information, code, enter into the database, complete the billing process, and distribute billing information. This role also involves filing insurance claims, assisting patients with insurance forms, and processing unpaid accounts by contacting patients and third-party payers. The Patient Service Representative acts as a liaison between the patient and medical support staff, greets patients and visitors courteously, checks in patients, verifies and updates insurance information, and obtains necessary signatures. They assist patients with ambulatory difficulties, maintain the appointment book, provide front office phone support, and screen visitors. The role includes gathering, coding, and posting outpatient charges, processing payments, researching address verification, and assisting with mail returns and outgoing statements. The Patient Service Representative acquires billing information for doctors, performs cashiering functions, prepares daily cash deposits, and receives payments. They code and post payments, maintain records, and work with patients on prepayment sources or financial agreements. This position also assists with outpatient coding and error resolution, processes edits and customer service requests, identifies trends, and communicates problems to management. They update patient account databases, maintain physician schedules, schedule surgeries and appointments, and answer patient questions regarding appointments and testing. The role involves assembling patient charts, updating patient profiles, overseeing the waiting area, and assisting patients with insurance claims and benefits. They process benefit correspondence and insurance forms, assist with pre-certification, and follow up with insurance companies. The Patient Service Representative answers patient account inquiries, confirms workers’ compensation claims, prepares disability claims, and follows up on claim payments. They maintain files, research information for billing, code procedures and diagnoses, and key charge information into the system. The role includes processing and distributing billings, pulling and filing charts, picking up medical reports, and maintaining orderly files. They also purge obsolete records, destroy outdated records, make new patient charts, repair damaged charts, and assist in locating and filing records. The Patient Service Representative works with medical assistants and other staff to route charts and follows medical records policies. They collect payments at time of service, review accounts for timely payments, perform collection actions, and evaluate patient financial status. This role identifies and resolves patient billing complaints, follows up on accounts, and participates in educational activities. They gather and verify superbills, enter charge and payment information, print and verify daily reports, and back up computer files. The Patient Service Representative registers new patients, updates financial information, maintains confidentiality, and performs other related duties.
