This role is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, preventing duplicate records, and ensuring patient safety through proper identification. The Patient Service Representative checks in and registers patients, verifies demographic and insurance information, and collects co-pays. They must understand insurance basics, Advocate Health contracts, and financial obligations, referring patients to Financial Advocates when necessary. The role also involves ensuring compliance with government regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and others, obtaining necessary signatures, and potentially scheduling appointments. A key aspect is creating a welcoming environment through excellent customer service, answering phones, and assisting patients with various needs like transportation and interpreter services. The representative will also manage assigned electronic health record work queues.
