The Patient Scheduling Representative I is responsible for scheduling and registering patient appointments from inbound phone queues in a courteous and professional manner. This role promotes positive patient experiences by minimizing call wait times and providing exceptional customer service. The representative will handle patient requests, answer decision tree questions, and apply correct workflows and protocols. They will utilize attention to detail to accurately document relevant information and route encounters appropriately to avoid delays in patient care. The role involves scheduling or rescheduling patients for appointments based on available time slots, physician orders/referrals, and appointment duration. The representative will also handle patient requests for multiple hospital outpatient departments, communicate professionally with patients, physicians, and staff, and receive/redirect inquiries. Data entry into the electronic health record system (EPIC), pre-registration, insurance eligibility verification, and informing patients of financial responsibility are key duties. The position requires meeting productivity standards, maintaining QA scores, attending staff meetings, staying updated on policy changes, and communicating issues to leadership. Utilizing knowledge-based articles for problem-solving and adhering to HIPAA guidelines are also essential. The role involves verifying order/referral information, contacting provider offices for clarification, searching for patient orders/referrals, and transcribing information accurately. Additionally, the representative will verify Medical Necessity of outpatient services for Medicare patients. This position requires significant computer and telephone use, with prolonged sitting.
