About The Position

Responsible for answering telephone, scheduling tests, pre-certifying and registering patients, coordinating test results, data collection and maintaining data. This role involves general clerical duties and may include assisting with all scheduler roles and covering for the department manager in their absence. For the Diabetes Department, specific responsibilities include transcribing referrals, reviewing provider orders, managing work queues, ensuring accurate patient information and insurance details, explaining and obtaining ABNs, providing basic health information, generating reports on cancellations/no-shows, facilitating data collection for quality initiatives, obtaining referrals for outpatient services, connecting with patients post-discharge, communicating with referring providers, generating glycemic data reports, assisting with accreditation reporting, and scheduling conference rooms and staff calendars.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of Technical Experience
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
  • Typing minimum 40 wpm

  • Accurately transcribes both internal and external referrals into EPIC
  • Reviews provider order for necessary components. Contacts referring provider office for new order if incomplete.
  • Manages work queue for nutrition and diabetes services for multiple locations throughout the system
  • Follows scheduling policy and procedures to accurately identify patient, insurances, referrals, and obtains required signatures where applicable
  • Accurately screens ABNs to determine medical necessity, explains ABN to patient, obtains signatures and reviews document for completeness.
  • Provides basic nutrition and diabetes specific health information
  • Generates reports to identify cancellations/no shows and reviews service history to determine need for rescheduling
  • Facilitates collection of data for CQI & KPI initiatives
  • Obtains appropriate referrals for outpatient follow-up services post-discharge from hospital
  • Connects with patients post-discharge from hospital to complete patient experience survey
  • Communicates with referring providers for any patient not receiving services as prescribed (ie unable to contact, no-show, multiple cancellations, etc)
  • Generates daily reports for inpatient glycemic data
  • Assists with data collection for annual accreditation reporting
  • Schedules conference rooms for group session, staff meetings, trainings, etc
  • Assists with management of staff outlook calendars
