The Patient Safety Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of hospital-wide patient safety program. This position works out of Western Psychiatric Hospital and works Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related healthcare area required.
5 years of Clinical experience OR experience in risk, liability or loss control at the organizational level is required.
Ability to work with a variety of Microsoft office software systems.
Analytical ability to prepare, review and present statistical data.
Interpersonal skills to work with management and physicians, and all levels of staff.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) OR Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Nice To Haves

Certification in Quality Management from Health Care Quality Council Management preferred

Responsibilities

Provide ongoing patient safety training to staff.
Promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.
In collaboration with hospital leadership and hospital councils/committees, focus on the workplace violence initiatives and staff injury prevention initiatives.
Investigate safety risks through rounds, reviews, and inspections.
Analyze incidents, identify trends, and recommend actions.
Implement safety plans and national goals.
Ensure adherence to federal and state regulations.
Assist with analyzing workplace violence incidents including patients and staff; support the RCA and event review process.
Maintain confidential safety and legal files.
Assist legal counsel with case preparation.
Communicate significant events and potential claims promptly.
Complete staff injury follow-ups as assigned.
Support performance improvement through data analysis.
Collaborate with team members to meet goals.
Participate in on-call rotation for safety event awareness.
Assists Clinical Staff with difficult patients; problem solve, behavior planning etc. to all the inpatient units.
