About The Position

The Patient Safety Sitter works under the direction of a Registered Nurse and assists professional nursing staff by directly observing patients experiencing behavioral changes. The role focuses on maintaining a safe environment, engaging patients in diversional activities, and reporting changes in patient behavior to the nurse. The sitter must be able to work with patients under isolation precautions and promote positive patient and team interactions in accordance with Hackensack Meridian Health's standards of behavior.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent program; may be in progress.
• AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification within 60 days of entering the position.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in a setting with direct patient contact.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety of patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
• Observe patients for changes in behavior and report observations to the Registered Nurse.
• Maintain a safe environment by identifying safety risks in the patient's surroundings and taking necessary steps to reduce them.
• Use appropriate interventions, including observation, redirection, and diversional activities.
• Work in situations involving isolation precautions.
• Promote positive patient and team interactions in accordance with HMH core beliefs and standards of behavior.
• Maintain patient confidentiality, privacy, and dignity.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
