The Patient Safety Observer monitors patients remotely via video monitor or at the bedside to ensure their safety while under observation. The role provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients, verbally redirects patients from at-risk behaviors as the first response, and summons nursing staff when patients need assistance or an emergency occurs. The observer supports patient and institutional confidentiality and follows related hospital policies. This is a full-time position in Chicago, Illinois, with 36 hours per week on days from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Rotating weekends and holidays are required. The role may float to inpatient units to provide bedside observation. Observers may monitor up to 16 patients on one monitor and must remain alert throughout their shift. The position requires effective communication with patients and hospital staff, quick responses to behavioral changes, and the ability to prioritize simultaneous situations. The observer does not perform nursing care duties unless oriented and authorized to provide direct patient care. A high school education is required; Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred. The employer offers a range of benefits, with some pay premiums and incentives dependent on position eligibility.
