About The Position

The Patient Representative/Advocate participates in the hospital’s efforts to maximize revenues by determining and entering the patient’s financial status, verifying coverage, as well as reviewing admission information for completeness and accuracy within the electronic health record (EHR). Obtains all required information, collects and/or creates a plan for payment with the responsible parties to include assisting patients to complete the applications for the NYS Health Exchange coverage’s, including Medicaid and/or for the organization’s Charity Care when appropriate for all patients. Handles all cash functions for the organization.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two to three years related experiences in patient billing, payment arrangements, authorizations and insurances.
  • Articulate verbal ability required to discuss personal and financial matters regarding assistance.
  • Experience in healthcare field is required.
  • Must be computer software and hardware literate.
  • C AC Certification required within 1 year of hire. Must maintain certification thereafter for the duration of employment.
  • Light work requiring lifting up to 25 pounds with occasional lifting and/or lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasional bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling and reaching is required.
  • Requires 80% sitting and 20% standing or walking.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word; required.
  • Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks.
  • Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment.
  • Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking.
  • Ability to lift 10 lbs.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to organize and synthesize new information.
