About The Position

The Admitting Lead Registration Clerk is responsible for assisting supervision of the hospital personnel. The lead clerk must accomplish training, assigning, scheduling, and coaching admitting personnel. Duties will also include communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; adhering to policies and procedures. This role primarily interacts with administration, providers, employees, clinical and non-clinical departments, patients, vendors, insurance companies, and visitors. The lead clerk assists in overseeing the operations for the admissions department, receives authorization for all inpatients/observation patients, and provides daily direction and leadership to assigned staff. They will conduct special studies and projects as assigned, assist with training new hires, and ensure department orientation is completed for new employees. The position is responsible for daily management in staffing of the patient registration area and corresponding with the business office manager to ensure daily coverage and management of open shifts as needed. The role requires providing exemplary customer service, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA, and cooperating with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives. The employee must demonstrate timeliness and professionalism in appearance, communications, and actions, solve practical problems, and attend meetings as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year customer service experience required.
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of anatomy and, at a minimum, a basic understanding of surgical procedures and diagnostic imaging terminology.
  • Basic computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
  • Must be committed to quality and patient safety at all times.
  • Excellent command / highly proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Must be effective at adjusting to change, prioritizing duties, handling stress and effectively communicating face-to-face and/or over the telephone.
  • Must be able to work independently, and flexibly, and as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must be able to manage several interruptions throughout the shift.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of similar experience preferred in healthcare setting.

Responsibilities
