The Patient Registrar is responsible for engaging in positive interactions, providing helpful assistance, and managing patient registration processes. This role involves arriving patients to the ER and Urgent Care, signing in hospital outpatient visits, identifying patients in need of immediate care, and admitting surgical and direct admit patients. The registrar also schedules and checks in hospital outpatient lab patients, identifies and selects correct electronic medical records to minimize errors, and enters patient complaints/symptoms. They generate patient armbands, face sheets, and labels, gather demographic and billing information, obtain necessary signatures, and verify insurance information. The role also involves identifying patients with out-of-network insurance, assisting patients without insurance with financial counselors, collecting co-pays and payments, and coordinating patient unit placement. Additionally, the Patient Registrar provides accurate information, assists other departments and EMS/EMT agencies, performs pre-admission and pre-registration functions, provides admission information, secures patient valuables, assists with EPIC downtime or disaster mode, and provides transportation vouchers. They maintain and balance a cash drawer, manage work queues, assess interpreter needs, handle telephone inquiries, monitor security cameras, address concerns, utilize service recovery skills, and remain flexible to changing duties and work volumes. The registrar presents a professional demeanor, completes travel screening questionnaires, tracks visitors, provides directions, demonstrates teamwork, communicates effectively with leadership and staff, uses good judgment for unusual occurrences, utilizes resources efficiently, and follows healthcare regulations. Light cleaning duties and completion of educational courses are also part of the role. This position may require working alternate shifts, weekends, and overtime.
