Job Overview The Patient Registrar works collaboratively with the Registration and Outpatient Services in maintaining and adjusting clinic appointments in accordance with clinic templates and physician schedules. Employee will demonstrate and execute accurate and timely data management relative to Shriners Children's operating system. The schedule for this position will be 9:00AM - 5:30PM Monday through Friday. The pay range for this position is $17.37 - $26.05/hourly. Compensation is determined based on relevant experience and department equity.

Responsibilities

  • As the first point of contact with outpatients, will provide a timely and courteous response in a caring and sensitive manner.
  • Answers telephones and relays messages in a professional and timely manner.
  • Directs inquiries to appropriate interdisciplinary team member.
  • Confidentiality of both patient and employee information, hospital and department affairs is demonstrated by no inappropriate dissemination in any format (written, oral, or electronic) that would constitute a breach of the hospital's established confidentiality policy.
  • Answers telephone inquires in a pleasant and concerned manner.
  • Has a basic understanding of care needs for the population we treat so multiple transfers or delays in follow-up to the calls is minimized.
  • Recognizes the options for scheduling (photos, visit, telemedicine, outreach) and readily adapts knowledge to situations as they arise.
  • Has basic to intermediate understanding of what variables need to be included when processing concerns and uses resources as needed to develop and plan in a realistic and appropriate manner.
  • Performs check-in of patients who arrive for scheduled appointments.
  • Obtain patient’s chart and x-rays, and notify applicable department(s) of patient’s arrival.
  • Monitors incomplete pre-registration worklist and makes necessary pre-registration calls to families scheduled for Monday through Friday clinics.
  • Confirms and updates demographic and insurance information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Sets insurance verification field to "required" or "verified" to adhere current requirements for frequency of verification needed.
  • Re-opens cases for physicians as applicable.
  • Copies necessary information to keep file up to date.
  • Timely communicates patient information changes to the appropriate departments for corrections (IS, HIM, Fiscal).
  • Creates face sheets and stickers for patient appointments as needed, performs clean ups on a timely basis.
  • Maintains assigned daily "Ques" and scheduling appointments/ setting re-registration encounters as needed, performs clean ups on a timely basis.
  • Identifies uninsured patients, documents status in Epic and refers to financial counselor for follow-up.
  • As directed, manually populates clinics on 5th of month.
