The Patient Registrar is responsible for engaging in positive interactions, providing helpful assistance, and managing patient arrivals and registrations in various departments such as the ER and Urgent Care. This role involves identifying patients in need of immediate care, prioritizing registration by complaint severity, and monitoring waiting areas for changes in patient conditions. The registrar also handles admitting surgical and direct admit patients, scheduling and checking in hospital outpatient lab patients, and ensuring accurate patient identification to prevent errors. They gather and enter demographic, guarantor, and billing information, obtain necessary signatures, verify insurance, and assist patients without insurance by working with financial counselors. The position also involves collecting co-pays and payments, coordinating patient unit placement, providing accurate information, assisting other departments and outside EMS/EMT agencies, performing pre-admission and pre-registration functions, securing patient valuables, and assisting staff during system downtime or disaster modes. Additionally, the registrar manages cash drawers, resolves registration errors, assesses interpreter needs, handles telephone inquiries, monitors security systems, and utilizes service recovery skills. Flexibility, reliability, efficient time management, and a professional demeanor are essential. The role also includes light cleaning duties and completing assigned educational courses. Occasional alternate shifts, weekends, and overtime may be required.
