In this entry-level role, the Patient Referral Coordinator will play a pivotal role in ensuring seamless communication between hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, patients, and clinical staff, primarily through email, fax, text, and phone. This position requires strong organization and multitasking abilities and is ideal for individuals with healthcare knowledge looking to enter the field.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Less than one year of customer service, administrative or related experience required.
  • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral (including telephone) and written communication skills.
  • Ability to key 30 words per minute with accuracy required.
  • Ability to work with handicapped individuals.
  • Understanding of Alpha filing system.
  • Ability to use a computer, including Windows-based software and e-mail.
  • Ability to use all necessary office equipment, facsimile machines, calculator, postage machine, copier, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Be at minimum a good fit for the job, as determined by the Talent Sorter assessment preferred.
  • Experience in a receptionist position or experience with medical front office procedures preferred.
  • Understanding of medical reimbursement and terminology and an understanding of front office (receptionist) duties preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage correspondence with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and patient care teams via email, fax, text, and phone.
  • Serve as a communication hub for patients, nurses, and providers across 10+ clinics and 25 facilities (and growing).
  • Follow up on outstanding items, documentation, and orders to ensure timely completion.
  • Navigate complex insurance processes and requirements.
  • Maintain detailed, organized records.
  • Greet and assist patients upon arrival, providing information on wait times and addressing inquiries at the front desk or reception area.
  • Verify and update patient demographics and insurance details during check-in; handle walk-in registrations.
  • Collect patient payments, including deductibles, copays, and co-insurance at the front desk.
  • Ensure accurate and complete electronic health records for all patients.
