About The Position

Xanitos is hiring a Patient Sitter Supervisor for the 3rd Shift at UPMC Altoona in Altoona, PA. This role is responsible for providing patient visual and audible observation, aligning with a Registered Nurse (RN) and directed by the Xanitos Leadership team. No medical experience is required, and immediate offers are available for qualified candidates. The shift is 3rd Shift (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM) with a pay rate of $20.00 per hour. Requirements

  • Post-Offer Medical, Background Screening and Drug Test required.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read and understand written English communication including patient identifiers, pick and receiving location, isolation precaution notifications and other important patient information necessary to perform assigned task.
  • CPR AED or basic life support healthcare provider (BLS-HCP) certification required.
  • Flu Vaccine required.
  • Any other unit-specific training required by Hospital partner such as but not limited to, the hospital partners new hire orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor both visually and audibly the assigned patient’s condition and behavior at all times.
  • Remain at the bedside of the assigned patient at all times, unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
  • Verbally redirect the patient from participating in at-risk behaviors.
  • Complete observation reports at the assigned times.
  • Take initiative in compassionately rendering service or responding to needs.
  • Interact hospitably, cheerfully, and supportively with staff, patients, visitors, and work colleagues.
  • Immediately summon nursing staff if the patient requires assistance, control, or other nursing interventions or exhibits unusual behavior or verbalizations.
  • Immediately report any potentially dangerous behavior or concerning conversations to the nurse.
  • Collaborate to identify and report patient safety issues.
  • Assure patient environment is safe, reporting any safety hazards to the charge nurse.
  • Remove visible hazards and report, as appropriate.
  • Assist in calming and/or reorienting patient in cases of distress or confusion.
  • Assist with keeping the patient's room safe and in an orderly fashion at all times.
  • Escort patient when diagnostic testing is required.
  • Participate in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patient when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment.
  • Ensure coverage around meal break times and prior to leaving patient for any reason.
  • Assist patient with ordering dietary tray, setting up of patient's meal trays, basic positioning of patient, taking a ride in wheelchair and/or ambulation if patient is stable and gait has been previously determined safe by assigned staff nurse.
  • May assist with ambulation, if directed to by the RN.
  • Respect hospital and company property.
  • Respond rapidly and thoroughly to emergencies, special needs, etc.
  • Take suggestions and direction from supervisors and Hospital staff.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Honor department’s attendance, break, behavior, dress, personal hygiene, and safety codes.
  • Follow all confidentiality and other regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with all department and hospital educational programs.
  • Always behave in a professional manner.
  • Assist other associates, as necessary.
  • Respond to direction as provided.
  • Comply with facility confidentiality and patient’s rights policy as outlined in the facilities HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Successfully orient and train new hires.
  • Adjust daily staffing levels as requested by the hospital.
  • Lead daily communication checkpoints with nursing.
  • Communicate essential job functions to the POA team.
  • Manage and effectively give directions to POAs on their shifts.
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor the needs of operation.
  • Give input on improvement possibilities of facility.
  • Follow direction of supervisor.
  • Project a professional image with visitors, staff, and guests.
  • Represent a positive image for the department and organization.
  • Perform other duties as identified.
