About The Position

This role guides cancer patients through their treatment journey, from screening to survivorship. The Patient Navigator coordinates patient requests for information about their disease, treatment side effects, and available community resources. They work to maximize treatment adherence by collaborating with patients and a multidisciplinary team. This position involves tracking and reviewing orders, medical tests, and procedures, ensuring timely information for providers. The role requires functioning in an organized and time-conscious manner while maintaining professional standards. The Patient Navigator will also help manage treatment side effects under physician direction and support patients during critical decision-making periods. This role may involve sharing responsibilities with other patient navigation staff under the guidance of providers and management.

Requirements

Medical Assistant Certification from one of the following (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT)
Ability to work well as part of the interdisciplinary team in the treatment and care of sick and/or terminally ill patients and their families.
CMA--American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)/ RMA--American Medical Technologists (AMT) CCMA--National Health Career Association (NHA)/ NCMA--National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Nice To Haves

2 years’ experience working with patients and their families.
Associate degree or higher in a healthcare related field.

Responsibilities

Provide guidance to the cancer patient from screening to survivorship.
Coordinate patient requests for information regarding the disease process, expected side effects of treatment, and community resources.
Maximize treatment adherence by coordinating with patients and a multidisciplinary team.
Track and review orders, medical tests, and medical procedures and follow those results to provide timely decision-making information for the providers.
Function in an organized and time-conscious manner.
Maintain necessary professional standards for employment.
Understand the side effects of procedures and treatments and coordinate the management of side effects under the directions of the physician.
Support the patient during difficult decision-making periods.
Participate in the appropriate division of these job functions with other patient navigation staff with direction and guidance from providers and management.
Perform charge duties as assigned.
