About The Position

This role demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and coordination to provide guidance to the cancer patient from screening to survivorship. The Patient Navigator coordinates patient requests for information regarding the disease process, expected side effects of treatment, and community resources. This position maximizes treatment adherence by coordinating with patients and a multidisciplinary team. The role also tracks and reviews orders, medical tests, and medical procedures, following those results to provide timely decision-making information for providers. Functions in an organized and time-conscious manner, maintaining necessary professional standards for employment. Understands the side effects of procedures and treatments and coordinates the management of side effects under the direction of the physician. Supports the patient during difficult decision-making periods. Participates in the appropriate division of these job functions with other patient navigation staff with direction and guidance from providers and management. Marginal job functions include performing charge duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT
  • Ability to work well as part of the interdisciplinary team in the treatment and care of sick and/or terminally ill patients and their families.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years’ experience working with patients and their families.
  • Associate degree or higher in a healthcare related field.
