This role assesses and develops training plans for the Patient Menu Assistant role. It involves training new employees on job responsibilities, department policies, and customer/patient service, while monitoring the quality and quantity of work performed. The position is responsible for the progression of trainees' job knowledge through performance improvement processes, requiring extensive knowledge and experience with the policies, procedures, and practices of Strong Memorial Hospital and/or within specific divisions. Key job duties include orienting new employees, assessing training needs, developing training resources, and assisting in maintaining trainee progress records. The role also involves interacting with multi-disciplinary staff, reviewing patient food allergies with dietitians, reviewing meal tickets, and visiting patients for meal selection and preference entry. Additionally, it includes reviewing inventory of main tube feed supply, calculating and stocking tube feeds on units, which requires the ability to walk and stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in a healthcare field required.
  • 6+ months of experience in the Patient Menu Assistant role required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong leadership, communication, interpersonal and time management skills required.

  • Experience in food service and/or health care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and develops training plans for the Patient Menu Assistant role.
  • Trains new employees on job responsibilities, department policies and customer/patient service.
  • Monitors quality and quantity of work performed in the department.
  • Responsible for trainees job knowledge progression through performance improvement processes requiring extensive knowledge and experience with policies, procedures, and practices of Strong Memorial Hospital and/or within specific division.
  • Orients new employees to the patient menu assistant position, reviews work and provides consistent instruction for successfully completing job tasks during training period and beyond as needed.
  • Assesses training needs and develops training resources for the patient menu assistant position.
  • Assists in maintaining records of trainees' progress.
  • Interacts with multi-disciplinary staff members on the units to receive valuable input as it relates to further developing staff.
  • Communicates employee and/or process concerns to department management to address.
  • Reviews patient food allergies and works with unit dietitians to provide further clarity for safe and compliant meal selections for these patients.
  • Reviews meal tickets and provides further training with Patient Menu Assistants when needed.
  • Visits patients for meal selection and enters compliant selections and preferences in CBORD on units when assigned by supervisor.
  • Reviews inventory of main tube feed supply.
  • Calculates and stocks tube feeds on units as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
