The Patient Host or Hostess assists patients with the menu selection process to ensure they receive appropriate nutrition-related items. This involves interacting with patients to collect food selections, editing and entering these selections into a computer system, and verifying proper dietetic physician orders. The role also requires utilizing proper food handling and storage techniques during the assembly of patient trays, as well as when receiving, rotating, and storing food. Key responsibilities include delivering and retrieving food carts according to the tray delivery schedule and maintaining and assembling floor stock.
