About The Position

Jefferson Healthcare is looking for a full-time Patient Financial Counselor to join their team. This role is key in supporting patients by connecting them to health care funding sources. Responsibilities include reviewing accounts for accuracy and completeness, answering questions regarding patient bills and associated estimates, providing guidance on payment plan options, and maintaining those accounts. This position requires a high degree of professionalism, the ability to navigate ambiguous or challenging situations, and interpret information. Attention to detail, critical thinking, and a customer service mindset are essential for a smooth patient healthcare experience. The ideal candidate will have financial counseling, billing, or other hospital revenue cycle experience, or have worked as a health insurance agent or similar. Recent experience in a medical registration role is a must. A strong background in customer service, clear and effective communication to a diverse patient population, and an interest in program/process improvement are also desired. The ability to multitask and handle patient inquiries and information with sensitivity and professionalism is required. EMR experience, especially with Epic, is a plus. This is an on-site position working with 3 other patient financial counselors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Customer Service training and experience required
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills required
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial Insurance remits required
  • Recent experience in a medical registration role is a must
  • Ability to multitask and handle patient inquiries and patient information with sensitivity and professionalism

Nice To Haves

  • Financial counseling, billing or other hospital revenue cycle experience OR has worked as a health insurance agent or similar
  • Strong background in customer service
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate to a diverse patient population
  • Interest in program/process improvement
  • EMR experience, especially with Epic
  • 2+ years working in a business office setting preferred, ideally financial in nature
  • Proficiency with typing and working knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred
