About The Position

The Patient Financial Advocate will support clinic functions through communication and cooperation with providers, technicians, supervisors, and members of the clinical operations team. The function of the Patient Financial Advocate should serve to ease the administrative burden on clinical support staff and provide patients with a liaison between themselves and clinical support staff members and Providers.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and application software.
  • Knowledge of insurance plans, explanation of benefits, and deductibles
  • Demonstrated exceptional knowledge, use and documentation skills of both EPM and EHR.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in a medical office setting preferred.
  • Word processing/computer scheduling experience.
  • Knowledge of typical office work environments.
  • Previous customer service experience required.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time with frequent stooping and stretching.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to distinguish letters or symbols.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to raise hands and arms to shoulder levels without restriction, pain, or discomfort.
  • Ability to perform extended use of phones and computer keyboarding without pain or discomfort.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for patients requiring financial guidance and treatment affordability support
  • Communicate complex insurance and treatment information clearly and compassionately to patients and families
  • Educate patients on insurance benefits, treatment costs, and available patient assistance programs
  • Meet with patients post provider visit to review out of pocket costs for surgical procedures, in office treatments, in office procedures, assistance applications, and medication initiation or change.
  • Partner with physicians to explore alternative treatment plans when a patient’s access to care is limited.
  • Proactively evaluate and coordinate treatment options for urgent surgical procedures, in office treatments, and in office procedures.
  • Guide patients through the completion of PAP and Foundation Applications using electronic platforms.
  • Coordinate with Clinical Operations, Billing, and administrative teams to remove barriers preventing treatment access.
  • Reviewing upcoming clinic schedules (3+ weeks out) to verify insurance eligibility, prior authorization status, and assistance program progress.
  • Act as a liaison between clinic staff and pre-certification team for urgent authorization matters.
  • Take payments as necessary for surgical procedures, office procedures, office treatments, and large account balances.
  • Procurement of Specialty Medications
  • Vendor/Pharma Relations
  • Provide Specialty-Specific Administrative Support to Clinic (Providers, technicians, supervisors.)
  • Other duties as assigned
