About The Position

The Patient Engagement Specialist will seek to improve the patient’s experience through warm, empathetic, and professional phone communication while prioritizing participant safety. This role involves conducting outbound phone calls to prospective participants to support recruitment and enrollment efforts for active clinical research projects. The specialist will also follow up with enrolled study participants on reported symptoms, maintain clear and accurate clinical documentation, and monitor/assist patients with e-diary completion. Excellent customer service is expected for patients, study participants, clinical teams, and project stakeholders. Building effective working relationships with internal teams and research staff is crucial for smooth study recruitment and participant retention. The role requires ensuring data integrity by accurately recording detailed patient information within tracking systems and electronic tools, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), participant privacy regulations (HIPAA), and relevant protocol guidelines. Appropriate communication and escalation of patient concerns or protocol deviations to clinical leads and project managers are essential. The specialist must demonstrate thoughtfulness around the immediate impact of their outreach on clinical trial recruitment and retention, and foster teamwork, collaboration, and a high standard of communication in a fully remote environment. Additional tasks may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent clinical credential/training required.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and hands-on clinical experience in a healthcare setting (medical office, clinic, or hospital environment).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an empathetic and professional phone demeanor.
  • High comfort level utilizing electronic documentation tools, digital diaries, and remote communication platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior clinical research experience is not required, but a strong interest in clinical trial outreach and patient communication is essential.
