Patient Educator Registered Nurse (RN) - Diabetes
About The Position
The Patient Educator Registered Nurse (RN) - Diabetes is responsible for evaluating and assisting patients, their significant others, and families in acquiring clinical information and education. This role utilizes established principles of teaching-learning theory and life-style counseling, individualizing instructions for persons of all ages while incorporating their cultural preferences, health beliefs, and learning styles. The RN adheres to the Standards of Practice for their field of specialty, develops, reviews, and updates educational information for patients and staff, and evaluates the patient's/family's response to education, treatment, and health services provided. They serve as a resource to nursing staff, nursing students, other health care personnel, and the community, incorporating new techniques and knowledge acquired through continuing education and evidence-based practice. The position requires strong critical thinking and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to document patient assessment, education, learning barriers, interventions, and patient response to education.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state in which you work and reside or; if declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as your primary state of residency, meet the licensure requirements in your home state; or for Non-National License Compact states, current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner required in the state where the RN works.
- BLS required per policy guidelines.
- Must speak English in good, understandable terms.
- Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch.
- Finger dexterity.
- Critical thinking and ability to concentrate.
- Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
Nice To Haves
- BSN preferred.
- 2 years of experience in the field of clinical specialty preferred.
- Professional certification in the field of specialty within 2 years if not currently certified required or eligible to meet academic professional and experiential requirement to become certified in the field of practice.
- Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.
- Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required within the department by the nurse leader.
