Patient Companion Float Pool
About The Position
The Patient Companion provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients and summons nursing staff when a patient requires assistance, control, or another nursing intervention. The role requires supporting patients while maintaining the confidentiality of HIPAA-protected information and following related hospital policies. The position is in the Float Pool at Trinity Health Livonia Campus. Available shifts are 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m., with a rotating shift. Full-time and part-time team members are required to work every other weekend and three holidays per year.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Work every other weekend and three holidays per year; this requirement applies to full-time and part-time team members.
Responsibilities
- Provide continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients.
- Summon nursing staff when a patient requires assistance, control, or another nursing intervention.
- Follow the suicide protection policy.
- Assist the RN and assistive staff as directed and within the scope of the job description, including helping with activities of daily living such as feeding, oral care, bathing, and toileting.
- Contact the RN when signs of pain or a change in the patient's condition are observed.
- Follow fall-risk precautions.
- Protect the confidentiality of HIPAA-protected information and follow related hospital policies.
