About The Position

The Patient Companion provides a safe environment, companionship, and supportive care for patients who require constant observation as identified by a nurse or physician. The role maintains constant observation and 1:1 supervision, stays in clear sight of the patient unless instructed otherwise, and accompanies patients to clinical tests, procedures, appointments, or other approved destinations off the unit. The companion redirects impulsive or harmful behavior and calls for assistance if unable to redirect a patient or if there is a potential for self-injury. The position includes participating in shift reports and communicating pertinent information to the Registered Nurse at the end of the shift. The companion talks with patients to keep them focused, assists with meals when there are no swallowing precautions or carbohydrate-counting requirements, makes beds, activates bed and/or chair alarms, and assists staff with walking patients. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Employees are accountable for role-specific obligations and organizational policies and procedures; additional department-specific orientation competencies may also apply. This is a full-time evening/overnight role scheduled for 36 hours per week, consisting of three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Every-other-weekend and holiday rotation is required. The posting advertises a $1,500 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates, a minimum hiring rate of $15.25 with increased rates for experienced individuals, up to $3 per hour in shift differentials for evenings, nights, and weekends, and up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.
