About The Position

The Patient Companion supports patient safety, comfort, and dignity in a healthcare setting by providing one-on-one observation and companionship to patients who need extra support. The role requires responding quickly to patient needs, observing changes in behavior, communicating concerns to nursing staff, and maintaining a safe and respectful environment. The position serves Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana, and St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, Indiana. The schedule requires availability for evenings and weekends, 3:00 pm–11:00 pm, with flexible scheduling that allows employees to choose shifts each month and pick up extra shifts.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, or must be obtained within 7 days of employment.
• Must be able to react quickly to the needs of a patient who requires immediate intervention.
• Ability to observe and recognize changes in patient behavior.
• Compassionate, attentive, and reliable.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends, 3:00 pm–11:00 pm.

Nice To Haves

• College courses in a related field are a plus.
• Previous caregiving or healthcare experience is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities
