About The Position

The Patient Companion provides one-on-one observation and support to patients who need additional assistance, helping maintain their safety, comfort, and dignity in a healthcare setting. The role involves preventing falls, wandering, or self-harm; offering companionship and reassurance; and communicating patient needs or changes to nursing staff. The position is based at Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana, or St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, Indiana. The schedule requires availability for nights and weekends, 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Scheduling is flexible, with the ability to choose shifts each month and pick up additional shifts.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, or certification must be obtained within seven days of employment.
• Ability to react quickly to the needs of a patient requiring immediate intervention.
• Ability to observe and recognize changes in patient behavior.
• Compassionate, attentive, and reliable.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

• College courses in a related field.
• Previous caregiving or healthcare experience; not required.
