About The Position

The Patient Companion Virtual Care role at Texas Health involves utilizing technology for virtual patient observation and interventions to ensure safe patient care. This position requires competency in setting up and using virtual patient observation monitoring software, computer hardware, and communication devices. The Virtual Patient Companion collaborates with hospital unit nursing staff to optimize camera visibility for patients and conduct positive patient identification. They are responsible for ensuring alarms are activated with appropriate settings and are sufficiently audible. The role involves continuously observing multiple patients on a monitor, ensuring a co-worker monitors assigned patients during breaks or other temporary situations. The Virtual Patient Companion redirects patients promptly to maintain safety.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent is required
  • 1 Year Experience in an patient care setting/role such as Nurse Aide's, Patient Care Tech, Monitor Tech, or other nursing support role. is required
  • Basic computer skills, data entry required.
  • Job requires sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Proficient communication.
  • Use of hands, vision-color, hearing, speaking.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Organization and prioritization skills.
  • Manages stress appropriately.
  • Makes decisions under pressure.
  • Manages anger/fear/hostility/violence of others appropriately.
  • Handles multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the technology required for virtual patient observation and interventions for safe patient care.
  • Demonstrates competency in the set-up and ongoing use of virtual patient observation monitoring software, computer hardware, and communication devices.
  • Collaborates with hospital unit nursing staff to set up camera to optimize patient visibility and conduct positive patient identification.
  • Assures alarms are activated with appropriate settings and are sufficiently audible.
  • Maintains continuous visual observation of multiple patients at one time on a monitor; assures a co-worker is monitoring assigned patients during breaks or other temporary situations when unable to maintain continuous observation (e.g., when engaged in two-way video call).
  • Redirects patients promptly to maintain patient safety.
