About The Position

Northwest Michigan Health Services, Inc. (NMHSI) is seeking a Patient & Community Engagement Specialist to strengthen relationships between our health centers, patients, and the communities we serve. This role combines patient engagement, community outreach, communications, marketing, and partnership development to support access to care and advance the mission of NMHSI. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who enjoys building relationships, creating engaging content, coordinating community initiatives, and improving the patient experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public health, healthcare administration, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in healthcare, communications, marketing, community outreach, nonprofit, or customer service settings.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital communication platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Grant writing experience.
  • Experience in healthcare, community health, nonprofit development, or patient engagement.
  • Experience managing social media, websites, and marketing communications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead patient satisfaction and engagement initiatives.
  • Coordinate patient outreach campaigns and care-gap communications.
  • Support health literacy efforts and create patient-friendly educational materials.
  • Assist with Medicaid enrollment and patient navigation activities.
  • Create and manage patient and community communications, including website content, social media, press releases, and marketing materials.
  • Serve as the organization's primary media contact.
  • Support efforts to increase awareness of NMHSI services and grow patient engagement.
  • Represent NMHSI at community events and partner meetings.
  • Build relationships with schools, community organizations, and local stakeholders.
  • Coordinate outreach activities that connect individuals with healthcare services and resources.
  • Assist with grant writing, employee recognition programs, fundraising activities, and internal communications.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and organizational projects.
