About The Position

The Patient Care Technician supports the General Internal Medicine clinics at Iowa River Landing. Under direct supervision, the technician assists the nursing team with multiple types of patient care in outpatient care areas. The role includes both direct patient care and indirect patient care, such as completing paperwork and prior authorizations. Duties may involve electronic word- or data-processing equipment and conventional office equipment. The position is a regular salaried role scheduled for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., at Iowa River Landing in Iowa City, Iowa. The work supports UI Health Care’s mission to provide safe, quality care and excellent service, and Iowa River Landing’s commitment to friendly, compassionate, and efficient patient care.

Requirements

Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of medical terminology.
Public-contact or customer-service experience.
Previous clerical experience, including patient telephone calls, prior authorizations, medical record coordination, lab result entry or editing, and faxing.
Previous experience working in an ambulatory clinic.

Responsibilities

Facilitate the smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interaction with patients, families, and staff.
Assist with patient physical examinations and related treatments, including gathering patient history and information about medications, allergies, and immunizations.
Manage internal and external medical records to ensure accurate and complete information is available for patient appointments.
Perform clerical tasks, including answering phones and completing paperwork.
Assist in obtaining insurance pre-authorizations.
