About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works in the Med Surg, 7 Main department at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham. This full-time day position is scheduled for three 12-hour shifts per week, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The technician performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision and carries out technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse. UAB St. Vincent’s is part of UAB Medicine and serves patients across Alabama through five hospitals and numerous clinics. Requirements

BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.

Responsibilities

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
Assist patients with ambulation, including moving to a recliner, walking to the bathroom or down the hall, and getting safely to their vehicles after discharge.
Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
Report changes or findings in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff and document necessary records.
Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and intake and output.
Perform other duties as assigned.
