Patient Care Technician- PCT- Days
About The Position
The Patient Care Technician works in the Med Surg, 7 Main department at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham. Under supervision, the technician performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities, supports patients with mobility and activities of daily living, observes and reports changes in patient condition, and documents care. The role also includes maintaining patient rooms and medical equipment and carrying out technical patient-care duties as directed by a staff nurse. This is a full-time day position with three 12-hour shifts per week, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Benefits for eligible positions include paid time off, paid parental leave, an Associate Assistance Program, and tuition reimbursement. Requirements
- BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
- High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
- Assist patients with ambulation, including transfers to a recliner and walking to the bathroom or down the hall.
- Help dismissed patients get safely to their vehicles.
- Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
- Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
- Document necessary records.
- Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
- Perform technical patient-care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
- Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and intake and output.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
