About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works in the CDH Surgical Care Center, a 49-bed unit caring for post-surgical acute care patients recovering from orthopedic and general surgeries. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the technician performs basic patient care activities and supports unit workflow. This is a full-time day position, scheduled 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. with every other weekend, at 36 hours per week (0.9 FTE).

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or nursing school student with one semester of clinical experience completed.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

Nice To Haves

Phlebotomy experience.
Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program or graduate of a phlebotomy course.

Responsibilities

Perform basic nursing care activities delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, measuring blood glucose, and recording intake and output.
Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating.
Report abnormal findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, or emotional conditions to nursing staff.
Help keep patient rooms clean and orderly.
Use flexibility, organization, multitasking, and critical thinking to prioritize and complete unit work as needs change, including during stressful situations.
Serve as a liaison between patient care units and other patient-related departments.
Answer telephone, intercom, and call lights politely, using appropriate telephone etiquette, and communicate information to appropriate staff, family, or patients.
Manage overall unit workflow with the charge RN and/or assistant manager as needed.
Perform pre-census tasks and validate daily admission, discharge, and census lists as needed.
