About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the Med Surg department performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision. This role involves assisting patients with ambulation, personal care, and daily living activities. The PCT is responsible for reporting findings or changes in patient condition to nursing staff, documenting necessary records, and maintaining a clean and orderly patient environment. Additionally, they perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, such as oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, specimen collection, and EKGs, and obtain/record vital signs, weight, and inputs/outputs.

Requirements

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
  • Assist patients with ambulation, including helping them to a recliner, to the bathroom, or down the hall, and assisting dismissed patients to their vehicles.
  • Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
  • Report findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Document necessary records.
  • Keep patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintain medical equipment.
  • Perform technical patient care duties such as oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs as directed by the staff nurse.
  • Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
