About The Position

The Patient Care Technician on the P9 Surgical Urology unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse and directly impacts patient comfort and outcome of care. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, a CNA certification and hands-on patient care experience. The candidate must be available to work a combination of two 12 and two 8-hour shifts, Monday-Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays. Day/Evening shift, (7:00am – 7:00pm, 7:00am – 3:00pm, & 3:00pm – 11:00pm). The Surgical Urology/Orthopedic unit is a 32-bed unit for an adult patient population. This fast-paced environment has rapid turnover for surgical procedures, which include postoperative prostatectomy, cystectomy, penectomy, nephrectomy, and orthopedic surgeries. Unique postoperative care of hemipelvectomy, flap monitoring, and testicular cancer surgeries are also managed on this unit. The team uses an interdisciplinary collaborative approach to patient care. Integrated in our nursing practice are tools used to maximize the skills of team members to achieve optimal outcome and improved healthcare quality. Hourly breakdown of salary range: Minimum $18.27 - Midpoint $22.84 - Maximum $27.40

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience in an acute care hospital setting as a Nursing Assistant.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse.
  • Impacts patient comfort and outcome of care.
  • Acts as member of a multidisciplinary team that identifies and addresses patient care needs.
  • Assists in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, admit/discharge and obtaining vital signs.
  • Updates and retrieves patient information.
  • Ensures patient environment is maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner.
  • Acts as part of an assigned care team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
