The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is responsible for assisting in patient care, documentation, and supply management under the supervision of the charge nurse, clinical manager, and/or director. PCTs maintain unit cleanliness and organization. They may also function as an office assistant, answering phones, addressing patient inquiries within their capabilities, and performing data entry. Specific roles include assisting discharged patients with logistics and resources, coordinating discharge planning, and utilizing health-related services. The PCT in the Labor Delivery and Post Partum Breastfeeding Center does not provide direct patient care but manages administrative tasks related to breastpump rentals and supplies. The Float/Flex Pool PCT may be assigned to any unit needing support, including acting as a Patient Safety Attendant, and may be required to be on call. All PCTs follow Northern Arizona Healthcare policies and procedures, perform or assist with procedures within their scope of practice, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team. They may care for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
