About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works in the HFAM8 Advanced Acute Care Cardiovascular Unit at Geisinger Medical Center, providing advanced patient care under the supervision and direction of licensed nursing staff. The role supports patients’ activities of daily living, maintains the patient-care and unit environment, and contributes to continuity of care, documentation, specimen handling, testing, and unit operations. No prior experience is needed; comprehensive on-the-job training is provided. A consecutive two-week classroom orientation is required at the start of employment, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The regular schedule is three 12-hour day shifts per week, 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., including every other weekend and holiday. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. At least one year of clinical experience is preferred. Basic Life Support certification is required within six months. The posting notes that Geisinger may also consider applicants enrolled in an accredited RN or LPN program for a Student Nurse Associate role, depending on their qualifications and experience. Geisinger describes its ACE Nursing Model of Care as a collaborative approach that uses Patient Care Technicians to perform duties that do not require a nursing license. The model offers technicians greater autonomy, involvement in patient care, and career advancement opportunities. The role may include patient safety observation, clerical and patient-throughput duties, coordination with other departments, and participation in quality and regulatory readiness activities. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
