The Patient Care Technician will work on the 3ES Medical Surg Unit and will be responsible for entering specific patient treatments and charges to facilitate the management of the patient healthcare record. This role assists the care team in coordinating patient activities and services, and in coordinating communication and resources between the care team, physicians, patients, and families. The technician will assist patients with personal care needs, including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, and using the bedpan or urinal, as well as positioning, answering call lights, and making beds, all under the supervision of an RN/LPN. They will also assist with exercising and ambulating patients, utilizing correct body mechanics, and maintaining patient safety and comfort. The role involves obtaining patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, reporting any abnormalities to the nurse. As directed by an RN/LPN, the technician may perform procedures such as EKGs, perineal care, emptying foley bags, applying restraints, and giving backrubs. They will collect specimens (urine, feces, sputum) and deliver them as necessary, and document basic patient care in the electronic medical record. Additionally, the technician will assist nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety, and will answer unit phones and direct calls appropriately. The role may also involve performing duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
