About The Position

The Patient Care Technician will work on the Medical Pulmonary Unit during night shifts. This is a full-time position requiring 36 hours per week. The role involves assisting the care team in coordinating patient activities and services, facilitating communication, and providing direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Responsibilities include assisting patients with personal care needs, obtaining vital signs, performing basic procedures like EKGs, collecting specimens, and documenting care in the electronic medical record. The technician will also support nursing and clerical staff with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, and may perform duties of an Observation Assistant.

Requirements

Completion of an accredited CNA course and the successful completion of the CNA certification exam, EMT or paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with the completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation required
Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

Enters specific patient Treatments, charges to facilitate management of the patient healthcare record
Assists the care team in coordinating patient activities and services
Assists in coordinating communication and resources between care team, physicians, patients and family members.
Assists patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc. under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
Assists with exercising and ambulating patient; utilizes correct body mechanics while assisting with patient mobility; maintains physical safety and comfort of patient under supervision of a RN/LPN.
Obtains patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, and reports abnormalities to the nurse.
As directed by RN/LPN performs procedures such as EKG’s, perineal care, emptying of foley bags, application of restraints, backrubs, etc.
Collects specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and delivers as necessary.
Documents basic patient care into electronic medical record.
Assists nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety as directed.
Adequately answers unit phones and can effectively direct phone calls to the appropriate parties.
May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
